The Municipality of İznik, which works for the preservation and promotion of local cultural and agricultural products, has registered Derbent Weavings with the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office as a Geographical Indication, following İznik Müşküle Grape and İznik Müşküle Needle Lace.

The application for Derbent Weavings, prepared as part of the vision to carry the unique products of the district into the future under the instructions of İznik Mayor Kağan Mehmet Usta, has been deemed suitable for approval following the examinations carried out by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office. The registration documents have been prepared and delivered to the authorities at İznik Municipality.

“We need to preserve the values of İznik”

İznik Belediye Başkanı Kağan Mehmet Usta stated in his remarks, "We are working to preserve İznik's cultural and agricultural values. With the products we have received geographical indications for, we are preserving traditional knowledge and cultural values. This not only increases consumer demand for agricultural products but also provides great advantages for producers in terms of marketing. Today, Derbent Weavings have been added to the Geographical Indication Registration Certificates, joining İznik Müşküle Grapes and Müşküle Needle Lace, which we had previously obtained.

We continue to work on the promotion, production, and marketing of these products. In the future, we will register many more of İznik's values on behalf of İznik Municipality through different initiatives. With the registration certificate for İznik Tiles, our number of registered products has reached four. Protecting İznik's values is our greatest duty. Congratulations to our district of İznik."
